Jr. NBA Program for Girls Born in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017

KWGBA continues to partner with the NBA and Basketball Canada to offer the Jr. NBA program to the Kitchener / Waterloo area for girls ages 5 to 10. This program is the first all-girls program in Canada, targeted toward girls who have the eagerness to learn and achieve the fundamental aspects of basketball. Most participants are being introduced to basketball for the first time.

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED – wait lists for both sessions are full. Registration for the Fall 2023 session will open early in August 2023.

The fee for Jr. NBA this year (Fall 2022 and Winter 2023) is $115. for each of the fall and winter sessions. Every participant will receive a Jr. NBA pinnie and an age-appropriate basketball. If your daughter will be participating in both sessions the cost for the winter session will be only $70. as she won’t get a second pinnie and basketball. Each session is 12 weeks long.

The fall program will run every Tuesday at Centennial Public School in Waterloo from September 27th until December 13th – with December 20th as the snow date. The winter program (also at Centennial PS in Waterloo) will run from Tuesday, January 17th to April 11th with April 18th as the snow day. There will be no Jr. NBA during March break.

There will be two separate sessions – the early beginner session will be for girls born in 2015, 2016 or 2017 and will run from 6:30pm to 7:20pm. The later more advanced session will be for girls born in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and will run from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Girls born in 2015 have the option of attending the early or the late session. Please note that the later session is expected to be faster paced.

*New* Junior Phoenix Program for Girls Born in 2013, 2014 & 2015: 

KWGBA is happy to announce the start of an exciting new program – Junior Phoenix

Junior Phoenix is intended to be a bridge between our very successful Jr. NBA program and our U10 rep team.  The plan is for it to provide girls born in 2013, 2014 and 2015 who have completed one or two sessions of Jr. NBA with a more advanced program.  The program is full.  If you are interested please register to the wait list and we will let you know if a spot opens up.

As this is a new program, we are still making decisions on how it will work, and there may be changes made along the way, but here is what we know so far.

The Junior Phoenix program:

  • is for girls born in 2013, 2014 and 2015 who have completed at least one Jr. NBA session (or something similar) and are looking for something a little faster paced
  • it will take place once a week, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Vista Hills Public School – 314 Sweet Gale Street, in Waterloo
  • It will run from Wednesday, September 28, 2022 until April 19, 2023 with the standard off days (Christmas break, March break)
  • The cost will be $200 for the season
  • The girls will be provided with a KWGBA Phoenix reversible pinnie to wear for practices and games
  • The coaches will be working on finding exhibition games for the girls. There will be scrimmages along the way to put the girls into game situations.
  • The coaches will also be working to find a year-end tournament to enter. As this program is so new, we aren’t sure if we will be able to find an appropriately aged tournament or not.  Parents will be notified and asked for feedback prior to registering for a tournament.  If a tournament is found and it is decided the girls will enter, there will be a small additional fee to cover the entry fee.
